Active Cheshire – Sporting Memories

Where people can meet to share sporting experiences and reminisce through photos, film and familiar objects for people with dementia or memory loss.

Outreach provision enabling socially isolated older people to access activities in the local area utilising a wheelchair-accessible, 16 seater community minibus.

Brighter Days

Brighter Days is a Brightlife funded project supported by Tweedsmuir Social Group to help reduce social isolation in older people in Cheshire West and Chester.

The only criteria you need to be a part of the group is that individuals must live in the local area, be over 50 years of age and be socially isolated.

Bright Memories

Do you look after someone who is living with dementia? Are you living with dementia yourself? Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust are working alongside Age UK Cheshire and the Alzeimer’s Society to have a positive impact upon the lives of people with dementia and their carers. Buddying and Befriending Scheme

Cheshire Community Development Trust are looking for Buddies and Befrienders to volunteer for a couple of hours per week to help those over 50 become more involved in their local communities.

Volunteer Coordinators will offer full support and training, and the opportunity to get involved in regular social activities. All out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.

Chatter Chairs (£4 per session)

A form of seated exercise for people looking to improve their physical strength and fitness. Exercise moves, using weights and resistance. This is a fantastic way to bring people together in the community, by reducing social isolation and improving the health and well being of local residents.

The T-Club

A monthly social group for those aged 50 and above in a fully accessible meeting space.

Where the T stands for Tea, Tunes, Technology, Television and most importantly, Togetherness. The T-Club is a monthly social group for those aged 50 and above. Usually meeting every third Tuesday of the month in Dial House Café, Hamilton Place, Chester – which is a fully accessible meeting place.

Fab Weld 50+ Welding and fabrication recreational courses, the free Brightlife funded 5 week course covers basic welding and fabrication techniques. No experience of Welding and Fabrication is required, come along and meet like minded people. Times: 12pm – 2pm Mondays. Booking essential.

Gather Together – Haylo Theatre

Join Hayley and Louise of Haylo Theatre and share your stories. A chance to try new things, make new memories and explore ways to showcase your stories.

‘Gather Together’ is about making new friendships, sharing stories and remembering our own value within the community. We will use a range of artistic outputs such as writing, poetry, music, art work and theatrical performances which tell stories about your varied life experiences and future aspirations.

What stories would you want to hear? What memories would you want to share? What changes would you want to see? Its not all lights camera action, its about working with the community and creating work together.

Listening Ear

Over 50? Experiencing social isolation?

Listening Ear is a Counselling and Horticultural Therapy service for men over 50 in the Cheshire area who are experiencing social isolation due to ‘major life changes’ in later life.

Men in Sheds

Age UK Cheshire’s Men in Sheds project is for older men who may be feeling isolated due to bereavement, depression, redundancy or retirement and are looking to meet new people, enjoy a bit of camaraderie and learn and share new skills. The shed runs Tues – Fri 10am – 4pm.

Silver Rainbows – Social Network for LGBT people

The Silver Rainbows programme has provided and continues to provide special events for older LGBT+ people, their families, carers and allies including country walking, tea dances, social groups (“Tea and Tattle”), archive and reminisance project and lead to the formation of the Proud Mary’s LGBT+ Choir based in Chester.

Women Makers Fab Club 50+

Women’s woodwork classes for building confidence and resilience whilst creating connections, friendships and circles of support in the community.

Young and Green at Heart

The Conservation Volunteers is an environment volunteering charity which works to improve the quality of green space for all across the UK.

The Green Gym inspires people to improve both their health and the environment at the same time. All sessions are run by a friendly and experienced leader who will provide training in practical skills. Activities range from gentle to strenuous but you can work at your own level.

The Young and Green at Heart Gym runs every Friday, picking up in our TCV minibus at the main car park at Whitby Park, Stanney Lane, CH65 9AE at 10am, Northgate Arena, Victoria Rd, Chester CH2 2AU at 10.30am and then Countess of Chester Country Park ranger hut at 10.30am.

Crafting the Woods at Stretton Watermill

After the success of last year’s Woollen Woods at Stretton Watermill another exhibition is planned.  This time we want to encourage a wider range of crafters to submit their creations to this fantastic event.

The mill is calling out to makers out there to create something to be part of our outdoor exhibition.  Could you crochet a ladybird, willow weave a rabbit or turn a toadstool?  We’d love to invite you to contribute a crafted ‘something’ on the theme of ‘Native Woodland Flora and Fauna’ to this fantastic site.  All sorts of materials and techniques are welcome.
