Community Compass was founded by Simone Cobbold and Yvonne Boyle in 2016 to encourage and support older people out of loneliness through a wide range of community-based activities to suit all tastes and ages (eg crafts, arts, creative writing, cookery, poetry, pottery, gentle exercise classes as well as hosting social gatherings and parties). ‘A youth club for the older generation’, with training provided to help communties create, manage and run their own groups.
Launched in October 2017 the ‘Share Clubs’ match lonely older people with a local volunteer who wants to give their time to help their community. That may be through a weekly visit and delivery of free FareShare groceries, dropping round with a healthy home cooked meal or through a regular phone call. By signing up to the Share Club, members are also invited to a monthly day out where they can make or meet new friends, participate in a range of activities, enjoy a hot home-cooked lunch and go home with a packed tea and some fresh groceries. Free transport is also available on request.
